TRUONG DUNG - GOLD PRIZE THE NATIONAL ENGLISH CONTEST 2020

I had the opportunity to contact Truong Dung's mother one day in early July 2020 when he and his family had just received the news that this 11-year-old son has won the Gold Prize at the National IOE contest. This is a joy, an honour and great pride for his family having no one excels in language, especially English.

Truong Dung - The boy has a special memory and language ability

Thinking back to the process of raising Dung, Ms. Ly Anh - Truong Dung's mother said that at the age of 3, her son had a special ability in the language. At that time, she just let him contact with online English lessons such as Alphabet, fruits, objects, colours and funny English songs, etc, but he learnt by heart rapidly and remembered for a long time. Therefore, the family began to concentrate more on nurturing his special ability by teaching him at home, meanwhile registering for him an extra class at Ocean Edu Buon Ma Thuot English Center. Dung was outperforming his peers and grasped lectures quickly, his proficiency was also promoted in an international standard English environment.

Sharing the impression of foreign teachers at Ocean Edu, Truong Dung said: “At first I was quite awkward to communicate due to the lack of vocabulary and I was always afraid of making mistakes. Nevertheless, by teachers’ encouragements, I have made efforts to study and regularly discussed with my teachers about what difficulties or problems that I had. With high professional pedagogy and dedication, they have helped me a lot on improving my language proficiency. At the moment, English is no longer a barrier to me, it has become a habit and I am able to use this second language fluently in both study and daily life. I can communicate with any foreigner confidently and openly”.

“A lot of people also were curious about how I teach my child to learn English well. However, actually Truong Dung is a good son and an independent student. We almost do not force but let him learn by passion. I just hope my son will learn English excellently to pass the upcoming exam and gain a full-tuition scholarship in the future”, said his parent.

So far so good, the 5th-grade student in Buon Ma Thuot International Primary School has won plenty of impressive achievements in English such as First Prize of the Provincial Olympic English Contest for 4 consecutive years and most recently, he has won Gold Prize of the National Olympic English Contest on the internet 2020.

Revealing the secret of effective English learning, Truong Dung said that it is crucial to be confident in communicating and to practise this language day by day. Only when you speak out, will the teachers detect errors, so that, they can correct and supplement their knowledge promptly. Besides, to have a native-like intonation, he also records his speech, listens to it over and over again to find out flaws and try to correct them later. Moreover, Dung regularly spends 30 minutes every day listening to music and watching English movies to boost his vocabulary and skills up.

I will also try to comprehend all skills in English to pass the IELTS certificate with the highest score.
