Thai Ba Hieu - A pupil of Class 5E, Truong Thi Primary School, Vinh City, Nghe An as well as a student of Ocean Edu Vinh English Center, has just finished the English Challenge contest. This is Ba Hieu’s first experience at such a large playground for elementary school-age, and he has won the Third Prize overall. According to Hieu, learning English needs a lot of passion.

Joining in the happiness of Ba Hieu and his family, Ocean Edu Vietnam has had a meeting to congratulate and listen to some sharings of his journey.

Hi Ba Hieu, first of all, we would like to congratulate you on winning the Third Prize in English Challenge Contest organized by Nghe An Television. How are your feelings at the moment?

Although I did not achieve the highest results of the 3rd English Challenge Contest, I am truly exhilarated and proud. I have made some mistakes during the contest, but I considered it a lesson to better and better improve in the following competitions.

Why did you attend this English Challenge Contest?

When I was in grade 4, I have strongly desired to sign up this contest since it is an excellent English playground in the province, opens up opportunities for elementary students to experience, try and evaluate our English proficiency, as well as to enhance our emotional stability and confidence. This also is a great chance for us to interact with peers in Nghe An province. However, at that time, my family and teachers advised me to take 1 more year to prepare the best for the contest. The English Challenge 2020 gave me and my friends the opportunity to exchange and peer learning to improve our English skills, cultivate other general knowledge and make new friends. Through the competition, I can assess my own level, helping me identify weaknesses to overcome and continue the next learning path.

Participating in English Challenge, Thai Ba Hieu would like to try himself in the large competition

Going through weekly - monthly - quarterly rounds and eventually the English Challenge Final, what do you think about your journey?

Each round aroused me different emotions. If in the qualifying round, my feeling is really anxious. When the weekly round came, although I have prepared well and feel fairly confident, I was a bit nervous in front of the school so I answered wrong some sentences. Learning from experience, in the quarterly round, I tried to keep calm and relaxed my mind, as a result, I won the First Prize. The Yearly Final is a meeting of all excellent students in both English and general knowledge so that I only won the Third Prize, however, I am satisfied with this result. Through the English Challenge Contest, I can see the care, the support and companionship of parents, teachers at Truong Thi Primary School, foreign teachers at Ocean Edu Vinh English Center and other people in the Organizing Committee of English Challenge Contest. I would like to send my sincere thank you to everyone who has always accompanied me.

The student of Ocean Edu has won the First Prize Quaterly Round

Having a passion for English since childhood, how do your family, school and teachers at Ocean Edu support you in the journey to conquer this subject?

English is my favourite subject since I was young whereas due to the work conditions, my parents had very little time to tutor me. In 2nd grade, my parents have registered for me to study at Ocean Edu Vinh. At Ocean Edu, foreign teachers always teach us by modern English teaching methods, giving me really interesting experiences with this subject. Moreover, they all are enthusiastic, friendly and willing to accompany me during the competition. After more than 2 years studying at the center, I have enhanced my Listening - Speaking - Reading - Writing skills a lot, some others have also improved significantly.

Thai Ba Hieu is the pride of family, school and Oean Edu's teachers

Recently, besides studying at the school and Ocean Edu, Hieu also regularly watches English programs online, scientific cartoons for children and join several English learning groups. On weekends, Hieu’s mother and he usually take part in some picnics to meet and interact with foreigners ... According to Hieu, to learn English well, all passion, diligence, determination and courage are indispensable.

Thank you Thai Ba Hieu! Wish you all the best in conquering the next academic achievement and in your life
