I. What is Cambridge Assessment English?

The Cambridge Assessment English is an examination aimed at assessing students' English skills with many levels, which is under the Examination Council of Cambridge University, UK (a world leader in English exams)

Cambridge Assessment English is issued for all ages from pupils, university students to employees. In particular, the levels Starters, Movers and Flyers for students from 7 to 12 years old; teen English for pupils, university students (KET, PET, FCE), English for adults (CAE, CPE), Business English (BEC, BULATS), Academic English (IELTS), Major English (ICFE, ILEC). In this article, Ocean Edu will show you the Cambridge English certificates from KET level to CPE.

1. KET certificate (A2)

KET stands for Key English Test. As the first certificate in the Cambridge English Assessment certification system for teenagers and adults. It is the study program after Young Learners level (YLE) and is also an excellent starting point for older children to start learning English. KET is equivalent to the A2 level of CEFR. At this level, you can understand simple readings and communicate in simple and everyday situations.

2. PET certificate (B1)

PET stands for Preliminary English Test. This is the second certificate in the system of the Cambridge English Language Assessment. PET is intended for students at the intermediate level, equivalent to the B1 level of CEFR. At this level, you can communicate in daily situations or use English in written language as reading simple books or articles, writing personal letters or writing meetings memos.

This level is for students who have completed the KET level or have an A2 equivalent English proficiency level. Completing this level, students can apply for taking the B1 certificate of Cambridge University or Cambridge Academic English program (IELTS).

3. FCE certificate (B2)

FCE, which stands for First Certificate in English, is an advanced intermediate level certificate, equivalent to the B2 level of CEFR. At this level, you can confidently use English to communicate, express opinions; write in English coherently; watch the news; ... This certificate can be used to apply for working or studying abroad.

4. CAE Certificate (C1)

CAE, which stands for Certificate in Advanced English, is the second-highest certificate in the Cambridge ESOL certification system, equivalent to the C1 level of CEFR. This is an advanced certification that helps you make an impression on universities or employees. At this level, you can use English to participate in business meetings, academic seminars or tutorials, etc.

5. CPE Certificate (C2)

CPE, which stands for Certificate of Proficiency in English, is the highest level in the certification system of Cambridge Assessment English, equivalent to level C2 of Europe. At this level, you are competent to speak English like a native speaker. In other words, you already have the English proficiency needed to study or work in an academic or advanced professional environment, for example in the master or doctoral program.
