“FAIL” TO WORK DUE TO ENGLISH

There are a lot of demands but the "quality" is not enough.

Vietnam is increasingly integrating with the world when more and more foreign corporations and companies invest in Vietnam. Facing these opportunities, English has become an indispensable tool for employees to assert their capabilities.

However, according to the latest report of the Department of Higher Education and Postgraduate (Ministry of Education and Training), students meeting the English skills requirement are only 49%, up to 18.9 % of students do not satisfy this skill and 31.8% of students need further training. This has also been acknowledged by the leaders of various major universities that English is the student weakest point.

It is arduous to practically communicate

It is considered by many employers in Vietnam that the need to recruit is a lot, but they still cannot find suitable candidates due to most of the applicants' English ability is poor. Mr Dao Khanh - Sales Director of an automation company shared that recruiting people who know English is quite difficult in addition to a technical level. It took his company more than 6 months to recruit someone with English ability to read and understand the requirements in programming and design according to European standards.

Meanwhile, Mr Lam (26 years old) felt disappointed because he did not get recruited into an import-export company. He revealed that despite graduating with a Good degree and 3 years of working experience, he still failed because of the weak language communication ability.

Good English communication - Key to the dream job

Ms Tra (25 years old), a banker, shared that she felt fortunate to study abroad for 2 years, so she has a lot of progress in listening and speaking skills. When she returned to Vietnam, she found that large enterprises with foreign elements all require good English communication. 

Currently, she works in a Korean company and the language used in her work is entirely English. Especially, she has outstanding English skills among the staff, so she is entrusted with the task of negotiating with clients for essential projects.
